My Books

When I’m not working on software projects, I write books. These are a few books I’ve written over the last few years.

As of September 11, 2021, the Scala Cookbook has been an Amazon best-selling new release in both object-oriented programming and functional programming:

Valley Programming provides business systems analyst and computer programming consulting services in Colorado, including Longmont, Boulder, Louisville, Broomfield, and Lafayette Colorado.

Because I’ve been focused on writing books the last few years, Valley Programming currently consists of one person, Alvin Alexander, but I think I have a good track record. Among other things, I have:

  • Founded and later sold a multi-million dollar software development and web hosting company in Louisville, Kentucky
  • Led multi-million dollar software projects
  • Created websites like alvinalexander.com, which gets millions of page views every year
  • Written thousands of pages of requirements specifications in the form of use cases, user stories, software prototypes, and database designs
  • Written software applications using Scala, Kotlin, Java, Flutter/Dart, and other programming languages and tools

With a degree in Aerospace Engineering and having worked on NASA and DoD projects, and having previously founded a company named Mission Data, I tend to think in terms of “missions.” Valley Programming currently has two primary missions.

Mission #1

My first mission is simple: Work with my customers to solve business problems. If you need help designing, programming, and testing a software application, or running a software project, contact me for a free consultation.

Mission #2

My second mission is also clear: Over time I’d like to provide affordable computer programming training to Colorado students. I’ve been told that I’m a good teacher/mentor, and I certainly enjoy it, so I hope to provide training/mentoring services to people in the Broomfield, Colorado area as a way of giving back to the community.

Ready to meet to discuss a software development project you've been thinking about? Fear not, initial consultations are free, and I'm glad to share whatever information I can about potential project costs, time frames, and what I’d need from you to get the project done.

Just use the phone number shown at the bottom of this page to set up a free initial meeting. If I can help you, I’ll let you know, and if for some reason I can’t, I’ll let you know that, too.

My Latest Inventions

Over the last few years I’ve focused on writing books, but in late 2019 I released an iOS and Android “mindfulness” application named Back To Now.

I’ve written several other Android applications in the last few years, including a football game, and a fast Android web browser named FLiB.
